A comparison in Australia puts the MG 4 EV Urban against Geely’s EX2, two small electric hatchbacks priced to compete below A$30,000 drive-away in their entry trims. The Geely EX2 Complete is listed at about A$29,319 drive-away in NSW, while the MG 4 EV Urban Essence 43 is A$29,990 under a A$2,000 cashback offer available until October 31, 2026. Higher versions are A$33,954 for the EX2 Inspire and A$32,990 for the MG Essence 54 with the same offer.

Both cars have five-star ANCAP ratings and a broad set of driver-assistance features. The MG adds a heat pump and a 360-degree parking display as standard; the latter is limited to the EX2 Inspire. The MG is also the larger car, with a 2,750mm wheelbase and a 382-litre boot, compared with 2,645mm and 375 litres for the Geely. The EX2 counters with a 70-litre front storage compartment.

The MG’s two battery options are 43kWh and 54kWh, with claimed WLTP ranges of 316km and 405km. Its motors produce 110kW or 118kW. Geely offers 35kWh and 47kWh packs, rated for 252km and 345km, with outputs of 60kW and 85kW. Both models support vehicle-to-load power; the MG also has higher maximum DC charging rates across the compared grades.

Ownership terms differ: MG offers a 10-year/250,000km warranty when servicing requirements are met through its dealer network, while Geely provides seven years with unlimited kilometres and an eight-year unlimited-kilometre battery warranty. The comparison’s verdict favours the MG for its performance, range, equipment and roomier, more upscale cabin.
