In its UK review, Auto Express describes the MG Cyberster as a comfortable, fast electric grand tourer rather than a direct successor to the brand’s traditional lightweight sports cars. Prices start above £55,000. Its distinctive scissor doors and two-seat convertible body make a strong impression, although the car is notably large beside a classic MGB.
The range has two versions: the rear-wheel-drive Trophy, with 335bhp and a 0–62mph time of 5.0 seconds, and the all-wheel-drive GT, which produces 496bhp and reaches 62mph in 3.2 seconds. Both use a 77kWh battery, with claimed WLTP ranges of up to 316 miles for the Trophy and 276 miles for the GT. Maximum charging power is 144kW; a 10–80 per cent charge takes about 38 minutes.
The review praises the smooth ride, straight-line acceleration and quiet, refined cabin. It finds the Cyberster less convincing on rough, winding roads, where its nearly two-tonne weight affects handling, and notes that the brakes feel less reassuring than the acceleration. At motorway speeds, tyre and wind noise become more noticeable, particularly with the roof down.
The powered fabric roof takes under 15 seconds to operate and can be used at speeds up to 30mph. Inside, three driver displays and a separate portrait touchscreen provide extensive functions, but the layout is judged confusing and some screens are awkward to see or use. The review also notes that the GT’s extra power and 20-inch wheels are its main differences from the Trophy in the equipment comparison.
