MG is reportedly preparing to manufacture its upcoming electric city car, the MG Go, in Ferrol, Galicia, from 2028. The report says the first vehicles would be assembled at SAIC Motor’s Chinese production line, with Spanish output to follow. The model is intended for European buyers and would join a growing number of Chinese-backed vehicle projects in Spain.

The Go is expected to sit below the MG 4 in the brand’s range and measure about four metres long. MG has not confirmed its production powertrain or detailed specifications. The production car is expected to retain elements of the prototype shown at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, including sporty proportions, a prominent rear spoiler and larger wheels. It could use the MG 4 EV’s lithium iron phosphate battery system, but that remains unconfirmed.

The article puts a potential price at around €20,000, positioning the car against models such as the Geely E2 and BYD Dolphin Surf. Other named rivals include the Mini Cooper and Renault 5 E-Tech. Local production could help MG avoid European import tariffs and qualify for Spain’s Auto+ support, while making distribution across Europe easier.

The Ferrol facility is expected to reach full operation in 2028, after construction work through 2027. Plans cited in the report include €200 million in investment, 2,300 jobs across Ferrol and As Pontes, and annual capacity of up to 120,000 vehicles.
