Motorpasión tested the Omoda 9 SHS in Spain, taking the large plug-in hybrid SUV on a multi-day route from Tarragona to Toulouse and back to Barcelona. It completed 853 km on one tank of fuel and a single battery recharge. The 34.46-kWh battery is rated for 145 km of electric driving under WLTP; the test recorded 88 km. Omoda claims a total WLTP range of 1,125 km.
The 4.78-metre SUV pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with three electric motors, delivering a combined 537 hp and 650 Nm through all-wheel drive. It reaches 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. On test, fuel use averaged 7.8 litres per 100 km; the reviewer recorded about 3.5 litres per 100 km on secondary roads with charge available, and around 7 litres at 130 km/h on the motorway. The vehicle weighs 2,270 kg and has a 471-litre boot.
The review praised its generous standard equipment, spacious cabin and relaxed, quiet ride on longer journeys. However, imprecise steering, noticeable body roll and intrusive driver-assistance alerts undermined its sporty appearance and power. The multimedia system also felt slow at times. A panoramic roof, leather upholstery, head-up display and 14-speaker Sony audio system are standard; matte paint is the only listed option.
The official Spanish price is €50,900, but discounts can bring it to €42,500 without government incentives or a scrappage deal. The article places it against mainstream SUVs such as the Toyota RAV4, Volkswagen Tiguan, Cupra Terramar, Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson, rather than premium German models. Omoda-Jaecoo had registered nearly 30,000 cars in Spain so far that year, with the 9 SHS averaging about 420 monthly sales.
