Omoda’s C4 compact SUV is scheduled to go on sale in South Africa in 2027 and will be the first Chery Group model built locally. Production is planned at the group’s Rosslyn plant near Pretoria, where the first vehicles are expected to come off the line by mid-2027. The C4 made its series-production debut at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show.
The Rosslyn facility, formerly owned by Nissan, was acquired by Chery earlier in 2026 and officially opened in July. Its initial target is 15,000 vehicles in total, equivalent to 2,500 a month. A six-month production ramp-up across the third and fourth quarters of 2027 is intended to take the plant towards its maximum annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles. Other models listed for production there include the Chery Grootman and Tiggo Cross, Jaecoo J5, and Jetour T1 and T2.
Omoda has not yet announced South African pricing or full specifications. The C4 is expected to sit below the C5, which currently costs R339,900 to R469,900. Buyers will be offered petrol, conventional-hybrid and battery-electric powertrains. The petrol range is understood to include naturally aspirated and turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engines.
Cabin and equipment details include digital instruments, a 13.2-inch portrait touchscreen, a 540-degree camera system and 50-watt wireless phone charging. A fighter-jet-inspired start button is also specified, while the range will have three trim levels, including an Ultra version with sportier exterior details.
