Omoda has revealed the 2027 Omoda X, a new SUV from the Chery-owned Chinese brand. Its angular, rugged styling is intended to combine everyday use with a more adventure-oriented character. At 4,650 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,720 mm tall, it is similar in length to the Mazda CX-5 and is positioned alongside mid-size SUVs such as the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson. It has 200 mm of ground clearance, a stated wading depth of more than 700 mm, towing capacity of up to 1,800 kg and a 75 kg roof-load limit. The wheels are 19 inches in diameter.
A prominent feature is an infrared thermal-imaging system designed to detect pedestrians or animals in low light at distances of up to 90 metres. The article notes that detection does not mean the vehicle can automatically avoid an obstacle; real-world effectiveness depends on conditions and driver response.
The cabin has a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a 13.2-inch central touchscreen, alongside physical controls for frequently used functions. Other listed features include built-in karaoke, AI interaction and an X-MODE setting for adjusting driving response. Omoda expects to offer both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid versions, with two- or all-wheel drive depending on configuration, but has not provided detailed powertrain specifications.
No Omoda X sales market or launch timing is confirmed. In Australia, the brand is preparing to bring the Omoda 4 and Omoda 7 to dealers in the first half of 2027; plans for the X there have not been announced.
