Russian automaker Sollers has begun building the first examples of its S9, a full-size SUV with a ladder frame, at the Park of New Technologies site inside its UAZ industrial complex in Ulyanovsk. The initial vehicles are now going through quality control and mileage testing as the company ramps up toward series output.
Styling closely follows the ST9 pickup — a twin of China's JAC T9 — though the S9 gains a closed rear end and a new blacked-out grille with a horizontal-line pattern. Dimensions haven't been published, but they are expected to be nearly identical to the pickup's 5,330 mm length and 3,110 mm wheelbase. The project was developed by Sollers engineers together with a technology partner and Bauman Moscow State Technical University.
Buyers will get a galvanized body, a "winter package," and a choice of petrol or diesel engines, each mated to an eight-speed automatic. Detailed specifications are still under wraps, but the S9 will most likely share the pickup's 2.0-litre units, which produce 224 hp and 390 Nm in petrol form and 163 hp and 410 Nm as a diesel.
Deliveries to Russian dealers are due to begin in December, with the official sales launch slated for the end of 2026. Pricing has yet to be announced; the related pickup currently starts at 3.66 million rubles.
