TechArt, the German tuning house from Leonberg best known for reworking modern Porsches, is stepping into the restomod business with the GTclassic, a limited-edition coupe based on the 964-generation 911 sold from 1989 to 1994. The company, founded in 1987, had previously only taken on relatively contemporary models, but is now chasing a fast-growing segment already populated by outfits like Singer and Theon Design.
The styling blends the 964 donor car with visual cues from 1960s 911s, making the car both a restomod and a retromod. Chrome is out, replaced by matte champagne trim against a grey-green body. All lighting is new LED hardware, with air intakes hidden inside the old-fashioned-looking side markers, while the tail wears a ducktail spoiler, a tri-section bumper and twin exhausts in carbon surrounds. Two-tone 18-inch forged Retrosport wheels nod to the classic Fuchs design.
Inside, the 2+2 layout survives but the cabin is fully re-trimmed in red and black with champagne accents. Clubsport front seats and rear child seats get checkered fabric inserts, a pair of Hanhart analog stopwatches sits on the driver's side of the dash, and the four-spoke leather wheel recalls early 911s.
TechArt is sparing with technical detail, but confirms a reworked 3.8-litre air-cooled flat-six producing 380 hp, driving the rear wheels through a manual gearbox. The suspension has been rebuilt with external-reservoir dampers, and braking comes from large perforated steel discs. Just 11 cars will be built, priced only on request — quite possibly a seven-figure euro sum.
