BYD is preparing to launch the third-generation Tang in China, after showing the electric SUV to local media and publishing photos of production-ready vehicles. Dealer deliveries have begun, and sales are expected to start soon. BYD identifies this Tang as a distinct model from the Tang L, also sold as the Atto 8 in some export markets.
The new SUV measures 5,045 mm long, 1,980 mm wide and 1,740 mm tall, with a 2,950 mm wheelbase. Its cabin can be configured for five or seven occupants, and BYD has shown two dashboard designs. Both feature a large central multimedia display; the instrument display and steering-wheel design differ between the versions. The equipment list also includes lidar-based driver assistance, a panoramic glass roof and a front storage compartment.
The Tang is currently announced only as a battery-electric vehicle. A previously certified rear-motor version produces 408 hp. An October filing revealed an all-wheel-drive variant with a 292-hp front motor and the same 408-hp rear motor. Battery capacities of about 88.7 kWh or 105.8 kWh have been reported as preliminary figures. BYD has stated a maximum CLTC range of 850 km, and the SUV is also slated to receive air suspension.
