WeRide and Jameel Motors Team Up to Scale Driverless Robotaxis Across the UAE

Driverless rides in the UAE just picked up serious backing. Mobility solutions provider Jameel Motors has joined forces with autonomous driving firm WeRide to widen robotaxi coverage across the country, with WeRide supplying the self-driving technology and Jameel Motors putting fleet investment and operational muscle behind the project.

The vehicles at the heart of the deal are electric. Jameel Motors is investing in Farizon Auto, a marque under Geely Holding Group, whose Robotaxi GXR runs on the Farizon SV platform — a package that pairs a roomy cabin with urban-friendly efficiency and collected a five-star Euro NCAP score in 2025.

The rollout already has momentum. Dubai issued a driverless vehicle permit in February 2026, and fully driverless operations kicked off on March 31 in districts including Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim using cars supplied by Jameel Motors. WeRide, meanwhile, already fields close to 250 robotaxis across the Middle East, and the Dubai Future Foundation wants a quarter of all trips in the city to be autonomous by 2030.

Jameel Motors' CEO for the Middle East and Levant, Yousef Hussein, framed the moment as a move from pilots toward "full commercialization," saying his company intends to help build a scalable, dependable ecosystem for city-scale driverless services. The partners expect the expansion to bring safer, more efficient urban transport as it spreads from Dubai to the rest of the UAE.
