Xiaomi crosses 800,000 cumulative deliveries hours before its first EREV SUV debut

Lei Jun revealed on Weibo on Monday that Xiaomi's car business has now delivered more than 800,000 vehicles in total, reached roughly 29 months after the first SU7 sedans began reaching customers in April 2024. The pace has accelerated sharply: the count passed 700,000 in May 2026, meaning the last 100,000 units took only about three and a half months.

By the end of July, the cumulative tally stood at 767,630, split nearly two-to-one between the SU7 sedan (499,175) and the YU7 SUV (268,455). August marked a fifth straight month above the 30,000 mark, and January-July volume of 216,322 was up 14.83 percent year-on-year. Even so, Xiaomi sits at just 44.8 percent of its 550,000-unit goal for 2026, which would require averaging roughly 75,900 monthly deliveries from September through December — around 2.4 times its July figure.

That shortfall explains why the Sky Nomad range, unveiled Monday evening in Beijing, carries so much weight. It marks Xiaomi's first move into extended-range powertrains with three SUVs — the N70 Pro, N70 Max and seven-seat flagship N90 Max — carrying pre-sale prices of 259,900 yuan and 299,900 yuan ($44,240) for the two Max variants. Lei said the project launched in March 2023 and took 3.5 years to develop, arguing that neither EREV nor battery-electric technology is inherently superior, since "what matters is the product experience." He cited up to 505 km of CLTC electric range for the N70 Max, 1,705 km of combined range for the N90 Max, and fuel consumption as low as 5.7 L/100 km for the N70 Pro on a depleted battery. The gamble carries risk, though: China's EREV retail sales fell 15.35 percent year-on-year to 535,000 units in January-July, according to the CPCA.

The same event will also introduce the Xiaomi 18 Fold foldable phone and Pad 9 Pro Max tablet, the first devices built on the in-house Xring O3 chip — timed just three days ahead of Apple's September 10 showcase, where the US giant is expected to reveal its first foldable.
