Xpeng has switched on the first station built around its in-house X-Energy ultra-high-power charging technology, picking Hong Kong as the global debut. Developed together with local charging operator Halo, the site is described by the company as the city's first publicly accessible megawatt-level charger, and cars of any brand are welcome to use it.

The spec sheet lists up to 1 megawatt of peak output, currents of up to 1,000 amps and 400 kWh of on-site storage. The battery buffer caps the station's grid draw at 240 kW, sparing it from costly distribution-network upgrades — a decisive advantage in Hong Kong, where scarce land and slow grid works have long hindered high-power charging projects.

The platform debuted before the media in July at the Mona L03's global launch in Munich, where published figures included 1,040 kW peak power, support for grid inputs of 120-240 kW and 91.5% round-trip efficiency. CEO He Xiaopeng has said X-Energy stations, which combine storage, 10C ultra-fast charging and AI-based detection for maximum output of 1 megawatt, will reach Europe soon as part of a plan to build more than 1,000 self-operated superchargers across 13 European countries. One caveat: that megawatt figure is the station's ceiling, not what a vehicle can take in — Xpeng has yet to launch a model capable of megawatt-level charging.

No count or timeline has been given for additional megawatt stations, with Hong Kong set to act as the springboard for further cities. The charging build-out runs parallel to Xpeng's sales push: August deliveries of 39,107 units were its second-best month of the year, though the 243,111 vehicles handed over through August trail last year's pace by 10.49%, and He has targeted more than 60,000 monthly sales in the fourth quarter.
