BYD’s luxury marque Yangwang has named its forthcoming flagship sedan Altior for international markets and Dingyao in China. The company released a first teaser ahead of the car’s world debut in the United Arab Emirates in early November. It was previously known by the internal codename HU.

The teaser shows the sedan in profile beneath a covering, with rear-hinged coach doors and a roof-mounted lidar sensor visible. Its front design draws on the styling of the Yangwang U8 SUV and the brand’s interpretation of the ancient Chinese bronze ding vessel. Yangwang describes the car as an ultra-luxury executive flagship. General manager Hu Xiaoqing said the front end went through more than 100 design proposals.

Yangwang has not released technical specifications. The sedan is reported to be about 5.5 metres long. Chinese outlet Autohome previously reported that it could be BYD’s first car with a solid-state battery; that remains unconfirmed by the company. The model is expected to compete with the Rolls-Royce Ghost, Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and Huawei-JAC Maextro S800. Its reported China price is around 2 million yuan, or about RM1.2 million. Yangwang is already sold in the UAE through distributor Al-Futtaim.
