Spy photos of a prototype have provided an early glimpse of a new flagship sedan from Yangwang, BYD’s ultra-luxury brand. The forthcoming car is positioned above the U7, which joined the lineup in early 2024 with a 1,306-hp, four-motor powertrain. Yangwang’s earlier models include the U8 SUV and U9 supercar.
The prototype’s proportions, side-window shape and door handles recall the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Phantom, according to the report. At the front, the sedan is expected to use a two-level headlight design, with the main lighting units set into the bumper and daytime running lights along the hood’s edge. The rear is less visible in the images, though horizontal taillights can be made out. A broad window surround near the rear pillars is another distinctive feature.
The new sedan is expected to measure more than 5.5 metres long, exceeding the U7’s 5,265 mm. For comparison, the Ghost measures 5,546 mm in standard form and 5,716 mm in extended form; the Phantom is 5,762 mm or 5,982 mm, depending on configuration. Yangwang has not confirmed the newcomer’s technical details. Hybrid and fully electric versions are considered likely, based on the brand’s other models. Its presentation is set to take place in the UAE, with the date still unknown. The report also notes that the U9 Xtreme, rated at more than 3,000 hp, previously set a Nürburgring record.
