A camouflaged BYD Dolphin GT has been spotted driving in Brazil, adding to signs that the Chinese automaker is preparing the plug-in hybrid hatch for a local launch. Its commercial debut is expected in February 2027. In Europe, the model is called the Dolphin G and was shown at the Paris Motor Show in October.
Unlike the all-electric Dolphin currently sold in Brazil, the GT has its own body and proportions. It uses BYD’s Super Hybrid DM-i system, pairing a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor and an externally rechargeable battery. The more powerful configuration presented overseas is rated at 212 hp combined, with a 98 hp gasoline engine, a 163 hp electric motor and an 18.3 kWh battery. BYD quotes up to 1,040 km of total range under the European test cycle; Brazilian figures have not been confirmed and will depend on local testing standards. A flex-fuel engine, able to use gasoline or ethanol, is expected for Brazil.
The hatch measures 4.16 meters long, with a 2.61-meter wheelbase and a 425-liter trunk. Early estimates put its Brazilian price between R$150,000 and R$180,000, but BYD has not announced official pricing or equipment. Local production at the automaker’s Camaçari plant in Bahia is also a possibility, not a confirmed plan.
