BYD has launched a recall covering more than 180,000 vehicles in its home market, according to a filing published Friday by China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR). The campaign spans Qin and Tang models built between 2014 and 2022 — two nameplates that were never sold or produced in Indonesia.
The fault lies with the brake pedal pad, which can crack or detach as the vehicle ages. In a worst-case scenario, the brake lights would remain lit even with nobody pressing the pedal, a genuine hazard because drivers trailing behind may mistakenly assume the car is slowing down.
Defective components will be swapped free of charge through BYD's authorized dealer network. The report also recaps earlier Chinese campaigns by the automaker: a recall of 2015-model-year Tang SUVs tied to a drive-motor controller at risk of abnormal power discharge and circuit-board damage, and a separate action covering 71,248 all-electric Yuan Pro units whose battery sealing gaskets may have been improperly fitted, allowing water into the pack and degrading its insulation.
