BYD’s authorized distributor, BYD NEG, handed over 20 M6 electric MPVs to Vinasun Taxi in Ho Chi Minh City on October 31. The delivery brings the taxi company’s BYD electric fleet to 50 vehicles. Vinasun received 30 BYD Dolphin hatchbacks on September 17, before selecting the M6 for this latest addition.
The M6 is a seven-seat MPV with a 2-3-2 seating layout, offering more passenger and luggage space than the smaller Dolphin. BYD Vietnam estimates its charging cost at around VND 436 per kilometer. Assuming monthly travel of 5,000 kilometers, the distributor estimates savings of VND 5 million to VND 7 million per vehicle compared with a gasoline-powered car. Scheduled maintenance is set at every 20,000 kilometers or 12 months.
The M6 uses BYD’s Blade Battery. The vehicle warranty is six years or 150,000 kilometers, while the battery, motor and control unit are covered for eight years or 160,000 kilometers. BYD NEG also worked with Vinasun to train about 200 drivers in vehicle operation, energy management, charging and common technical issues. The distributor said it would continue supporting the operator with charging infrastructure, technical assistance and after-sales service.
