BYD sold 305,743 electric passenger cars worldwide in October, its first monthly total above 300,000 and 37.4% higher than a year earlier. Including buses and other commercial vehicles, the group recorded 490,168 sales, up 11%. Yet its overall January-to-October total was 3,621,744 vehicles, down 2.2% from the same period in 2025.

The October mix shifted further toward pure electric cars. A year earlier, BYD had sold 222,559 electric passenger cars and 214,297 plug-in hybrids; in October, the gap between the two categories widened to 128,000 vehicles. Across the first ten months, electric passenger-car sales reached 1,935,700, up 5.9%, while plug-in hybrids fell 11% to 1,625,969.

Exports helped support the monthly result. BYD shipped 170,194 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in October, more than twice the 83,904 exported a year earlier. After those shipments are subtracted from global sales, the article estimates sales in China at 319,974, a 10.6% decline year over year. The broader Chinese market had also recorded nine consecutive months of decline, with September wholesale sales down 8.4% year over year.

BYD is updating key models in China. At the end of October it presented a larger new-generation Seagull, sold in Brazil as the Dolphin Mini, which is set to compete with Geely’s Xingyuan. At the luxury end, the group is preparing the Yangwang Altior to challenge the Rolls-Royce Ghost; Yangwang is also expected to enter Brazil in 2027, above Denza in the group’s lineup.
