BYD plans to bring its luxury Yangwang brand to Brazil in 2027, with dedicated stores, according to commercial director Werner Schaal. The U8 is identified as the likely first model for the market, and its estimated price is around R$1 million. The brand, established in China in 2023, sits above Denza and FangChengBao within BYD’s portfolio. The U8 and electric supercar U9 have already appeared in demonstrations in Brazil.

The U8 is a large seven-seat SUV, with seating arranged 2+2+3. It measures 5.319 metres long, 2.05 metres wide and 1.93 metres tall, with a 3.05-metre wheelbase. Its four electric motors—one at each wheel—produce a combined 1,150 hp and 103.5 kgfm of torque. A 49.05 kWh battery provides a stated electric range of 180 km, while a combustion engine recharges the battery. With a 75-litre fuel tank, the vehicle is said to have a total range of up to 1,000 km.

The article also notes the U8’s near-four-tonne gross vehicle weight and Brazil’s revised driving-licence rules: category B licence holders may drive hybrid and electric vehicles with a gross weight of up to 4,250 kg. Yangwang highlights the SUV’s four-wheel control, which can enable sideways movement and turning in place, along with a system for active body and suspension control. The U9 is also mentioned, with more than 1,300 hp and a 0–100 km/h time of 2.4 seconds, though its price has not been disclosed.
