Caoa Chery has introduced the Tiggo 9 in Brazil, where the seven-seat SUV becomes the brand’s new top-of-range model. Launch pricing starts at R$249,990 for the petrol version and R$299,990 for the plug-in hybrid; the company has not said what either will cost after the introductory offer. Both versions are imported from China, and the model is aimed at the seven-seat SUV segment led by the Jeep Commander.
The petrol Tiggo 9 pairs a 2.0-liter turbo engine producing 224 hp and 36.7 kgfm with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Caoa Chery quotes a 0–100 km/h time of 9.1 seconds, with fuel economy of 8.5 km/l in the city and 10.9 km/l on the highway. The PHEV combines a 1.5-liter turbo engine with electric motors for 428 hp and 59.2 kgfm. Its 34.5-kWh battery is rated for 108 km of electric-only range, and the SUV reaches 100 km/h from rest in 7.9 seconds.
The 4.81-meter-long SUV is the first Caoa Chery model in Brazil to use the T2X platform. Cabin equipment includes a 15.6-inch multimedia screen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, a 14-speaker Sony audio system and electrically adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation and massage. Luggage space is 148 liters with all three rows in use, rising to 448 liters with five seats occupied. Driver assistance includes adaptive cruise control, emergency braking and lane keeping; the Tiggo 9 also debuts an automated parking function in the Brazilian lineup.
