Changan has added the Deepal S05 REEV to its South African lineup, where the 2026 model is priced from R699,000. Unlike the battery-electric S05 offered in some overseas markets, the South African version is available only as a range-extended electric vehicle.

Its rear-mounted electric motor produces 160 kW and 320 Nm. A 1.5-litre petrol engine, rated at 72 kW and 125 Nm, acts as a generator for the 27.28 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery. Changan quotes an electric-only range of 175 km and a total range of more than 1,000 km. The company also claims a sub-eight-second 0–100 km/h time and a 175 km/h top speed; charging from 30% to 80% at a DC fast charger takes 20 minutes.

The S05 measures 4,620 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,600 mm tall, with a 2,880 mm wheelbase and a claimed 464-litre boot. Standard equipment includes a 15.4-inch display, augmented-reality head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 14-speaker audio system, panoramic sunroof and vehicle-to-load capability. Driver assistance features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring and automatic emergency braking. The purchase includes a five-year/90,000 km service plan, a five-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty and an eight-year/150,000 km battery warranty.
