EMTA, a joint venture involving Chery Automobile and Jiangsu Yueda Automobile Group, has released images of the production design for its EMTA 01 K-Car, which is intended for the Japanese market. The venture also includes Autobacs Seven, Gotion and Anest Iwata. EMTA has previously said it plans to launch four new vehicles in Japan by 2029; its announced line-up includes models in different segments as well as the K-Car concept.
The production design broadly follows the concept, with revisions that make the car appear closer to series production. These include pull-type exterior door handles and headlamps and taillamps with matching angular shapes. The concept’s “01” marking on the lower rear door is absent from the patent images, so the final model name has not been confirmed.
A crossover-style version is also shown. Compared with the standard design, it has black plastic body cladding, revised front and rear bumpers with integrated lower protection, a contrasting roof and pillars, and smaller wheels with tires that have taller sidewalls.
EMTA has confirmed that the 01 will use electric power, but has not disclosed further engineering details or a launch date. A dual-motor, all-wheel-drive option for the crossover version is only anticipated, not confirmed. The vehicle is being developed in both China and Japan.
