Chery has officially launched the Q in South Africa, positioning the electric vehicle as an affordable option in the local EV market. It is offered in two grades: Comfort, priced at R349,900, and Elite, at R389,900. The model is described as a rival to the BYD Dolphin Surf and Geely E2.

Both versions use a rear-mounted electric motor producing 90 kW and 115 N·m, powered by a 42.7 kWh battery. Chery claims a driving range of up to 400 km per charge and average energy consumption of 12 kWh/100 km. The Q is said to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 13.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 135 km/h.

The car measures 4,195 mm long, 1,811 mm wide and 1,568 mm tall, with a 2,700 mm wheelbase. Standard Comfort equipment includes a 12-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel and an electrically operated tailgate. Elite adds a 15.6-inch screen, powered driver’s seat adjustment, an electrically operated front luggage compartment and a broader driver-assistance package; it also gets 17-inch alloy wheels, compared with the Comfort’s 16-inch wheels.

Chery includes a five-year/100,000 km service plan and a five-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty. The battery warranty runs for 10 years or 200,000 km. The Q had previously been sampled in Cape Town ahead of its official South African launch.
