Chery is considering bringing its Freelander 8 SUV to Indonesia next year, but the company has not set a retail price or confirmed a launch date. Chery Group Indonesia President Director Zeng Shuo said the price calculation is still under way and will depend partly on whether the vehicle is imported fully built or assembled locally. Import duties on a fully built vehicle could push its on-the-road price higher.
Freelander CEO Lucia Mao presented a list of prospective markets at Freelander Night in Wuhu, China. The SUV is intended for both right-hand-drive and left-hand-drive markets. Australia and New Zealand were named among the right-hand-drive destinations, while other planned markets are mainly in the Middle East and Europe. Zeng said Indonesia was a strong possibility.
In China, the Freelander 8 is described with two powertrain options. One pairs a 1.5-liter turbo engine, rated at 115 kW and 220 Nm, with a 60.3-kWh battery. Its claimed electric-only range is 310 km on the CLTC test cycle, and charging from 20% to 80% is said to take 12 minutes, with a peak rate of 6C. A separate hybrid version uses a 2.0-liter turbo engine and a 34.12-kWh battery, with a claimed EV-only range of 110 km. The source provides no Indonesian pricing estimate.
