Chery has unveiled the Tiggo X7 in Wuhu, China, and confirmed that the adventure-focused SUV will launch in South Africa in the third quarter of 2027. It is the first model in the brand’s new X-series, and was shown alongside the next-generation Tiggo 7. The X7 has a more upright, squared-off design, with a prominent grille, angular LED lighting, front recovery hooks, wheel-arch cladding and a tailgate that opens sideways and upwards.

Chery has not yet announced the X7’s powertrain specifications. The company’s presentation points to a plug-in hybrid version, which will get an AI Energy Mode; the article also anticipates an internal-combustion option, likely with a turbocharged petrol engine. The SUV is confirmed to have all-wheel drive. Its stated off-road figures include more than 200 mm of ground clearance, a 22-degree approach angle, a 26-degree departure angle and water-wading capability of up to 700 mm. Driving modes are listed for everyday use and varied terrain, including sand, mud, snow, rock, mountain and water wading.

South African equipment, powertrain choices and prices are expected to be announced closer to the launch. Chery also plans other local arrivals for 2027: the Grootman double-cab bakkie is due in the first quarter and has been confirmed for local production, while the Tiggo V and models from its sub-brands are also mentioned as coming to the market.
