A PakWheels comparison of two range-extended compact SUVs contrasts the Pakistan-spec Deepal S05 REEV Max with the top-grade Geely Starray EM-R Max sold in Thailand. Both use a 1.5-litre petrol engine as a range extender and list 160 kW of motor output, but their equipment and specifications are not a like-for-like comparison for Pakistan because Geely’s local version has yet to be confirmed.
The Deepal’s 27.28 kWh LFP battery is larger than the Starray’s 18.4 kWh pack. Their respective NEDC electric-range claims are 170 km and 104.8 km. Deepal also lists 320 Nm of motor torque and a 54.5 kW peak DC charging rate, compared with 262 Nm and 30 kW for the Thai Geely. Both quote a 30-to-80% DC charging time of 20 minutes. The Deepal is rear-wheel drive; the Starray is front-wheel drive.
The Starray is longer and taller, and its listed boot capacity is 528 litres versus 492 litres for the S05. It also has a 51-litre fuel tank, compared with 44.9 litres for the Deepal. The S05 has the longer wheelbase, at 2,880 mm against 2,755 mm. Both models list six airbags and driver-assistance features including adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
The comparison identifies different strengths rather than a definitive winner: Deepal’s figures favour electric driving, while the Thai Starray offers more luggage space and features such as an opening panoramic roof. Prices, final equipment and local specifications for the Starray in Pakistan remain unconfirmed. The article also notes that real-world range, fuel use after battery depletion and driving comfort need comparable road testing.
