The Z9S, a mid-to-large electric sedan from BYD's Denza marque, will officially go on sale on September 23. Positioned beneath the existing Z9 in the lineup, it is already taking pre-orders in three grades spanning 319,800 to 389,800 yuan (about $45,700 to $55,700).
The flagship grade carries a 122.5 kWh second-generation Blade battery and is credited with 1,100 km on the CLTC cycle — a figure Denza bills as a new global benchmark for EV range, eclipsing the 1,036 km of the Z9 GT, the previous record holder from the same brand. The other trims use a 102.3 kWh pack rated at 920 km and 780 km respectively.
Styling follows a coupe-like silhouette with split headlights, a full-width front light panel, a roof-mounted LiDAR and an active rear spoiler, while the cabin offers Nappa leather, a magnetic passenger panel for clip-on accessories, a 7-inch rear armrest screen and 44 storage cubbies alongside a 470-litre expandable trunk. At 5,090 mm long with a 3,025 mm wheelbase, the car also adds a 120-litre frunk.
Powertrains range from a 370 kW single-motor RWD setup to a tri-motor AWD layout good for 890 kW and a 2.68-second sprint to 100 km/h. All versions ride on the e3 platform with rear-wheel steering (4.75 m turning radius), "crab walk" mode and DiSus-A air suspension, plus the God's Eye B driver-assistance system built on the 5.0 large model.
