From Four to Ten Years: How Chinese Car Brands' Warranties in Brazil Compare

Chinese automakers competing in Brazil have turned long warranties into a selling point, with coverage stretching to a decade, but there is little consistency from one brand to the next. Protection periods and mileage caps are set independently for different components, batteries in electrified models generally carry longer terms than the cars themselves, and commercial use typically shrinks or voids the coverage.

The terms diverge widely. BYD backs private-use cars for six years — two years or 100,000 km commercially — and covers batteries for eight years with no mileage cap in private use. Caoa Chery raised its coverage from five to seven years or 150,000 km for 2026/2027 models, a level Caoa Changan also offers, with electrified batteries covered for eight years. Foton's Tunland V7 and V9 pickups get up to ten years, unlimited in the first five and capped at 200,000 km thereafter. GAC offers five years or 150,000 km (eight for the battery and drive unit), Geely six years or 150,000 km (eight for high-voltage components), GWM five years with no mileage limit but a 200,000 km cap on hybrid systems, and Jetour seven years with eight for batteries and motors on electrified models.

The rest is patchier: JAC publishes no blanket policy — its Hunter pickups get eight years while the eJS1 is covered for five years or 100,000 km — and Leapmotor lists four years for the car and, per dealer sites, eight years or 160,000 km for the battery, with paid extensions available. MG, though a British name, belongs to China's SAIC and offers seven years or 150,000 km plus eight-year battery cover. Across all brands, validity depends on servicing on schedule, and non-genuine parts, unauthorized modifications, misuse, accidents, natural wear or commercial operation can void the coverage; each maker posts its manuals and warranty policies on its own website.
