In Brazil, Quatro Rodas tested the GAC GS9 Ultra, a six-seat plug-in hybrid SUV priced at R$399,990. Measuring 5.06 metres long and weighing 2,365 kg, it offers Nappa leather on the first two rows, electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage for the first four seats. The third row folds electrically. Luggage capacity is 255 litres with all seats in use, increasing to 1,005 litres in a four-seat configuration, according to the manufacturer.
The cabin’s equipment includes a 15.6-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a head-up display. Its audio system has 21 speakers and is rated at 1,640 watts RMS by GAC. The SUV also has nine airbags, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance and a 540-degree camera system. Reviewers found the assistance systems overcautious and noted that the screen-focused controls can be inconvenient.
Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors, with combined output quoted at 500 hp and 62.7 kgfm. A 44.5-kWh battery provides up to 114 km of electric range on Brazil’s Inmetro cycle. The GS9 supports AC charging at up to 6 kW and DC fast charging at up to 140 kW. The manufacturer quotes a 0–100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds; the magazine’s test recorded 6.6 seconds.
The test praised the quiet powertrain, cabin comfort and effective brakes, while criticizing suspension that allowed noticeable body movement and frequently reached its travel limit on rough roads. In Brazil, the GS9 faces the BYD Atto 8, also priced at R$399,990, and the GWM Wey 07 at R$429,000.
