GWM has revised the Tank 500 for the 2027 model year in China, with most changes focused on the cabin. The center infotainment screen grows from 14.6 to 15.6 inches, joined by a similarly sized display for the front passenger. The 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and, where fitted, the head-up display carry over.
The updated SUV also adds a 22-speaker audio system, including two speakers built into the front passenger’s headrest. Fold-out tables are integrated into the front seatbacks for rear occupants, and a bed mode is included. GWM has widened the view provided by the camera-based rear-view mirror. Depending on the version, the Tank 500 can also be equipped with the company’s Coffee Pilot 4 driver-assistance suite and LiDAR.
GWM’s South African division has not confirmed whether local models will receive these upgrades. The current South African range has three trim levels and uses a 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel producing 170 kW and 620 Nm, with peak torque available from 1,400 rpm. Buyers can choose rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, both paired with a nine-speed automatic. Prices currently run from R849,900 for the Super Luxury 4×2 to R999,900 for the Overland 4WD; the Ultra Luxury 4WD costs R929,900.
