Jaecoo’s J5 SHS-H was named “New Hybrid of the Year – Mainstream” at the 2026 Car Choice Awards in Hanoi on October 4. It scored 3.74 points overall, beating four other nominees. The result combined judges’ scores, weighted at 70%, with public voting at 30%. Geely EX5 EM-i placed second with 3.63 points, followed by the Hyundai Tucson HEV at 3.26, Omoda C5 SHS-H at 2.25 and Kia Sportage HEV at 2.12.

The J5 SHS-H is offered in Premium and Flagship trims, priced at VND 669 million and VND 749 million. Its self-charging hybrid system pairs a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor for a combined 221 hp. The automaker cites a driving range of around 1,000 km on a full tank under the NEDC test cycle. The SUV measures 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,650 mm tall, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase.

Omoda & Jaecoo Vietnam says the J5 is the first model it has assembled locally, at its joint-venture factory with Geleximco in Hung Yen. The J5 is also offered with gasoline, hybrid and fully electric powertrains. Flagship hybrid equipment includes six airbags, 18 ADAS functions and a 540-degree camera; the hybrid’s engine warranty is 10 years or 1 million km. The awards category is intended for newly launched, more accessible hybrids aimed at buyers interested in electrification but not yet ready for a fully electric vehicle.
