Luxeed, the electric brand Huawei operates jointly with Chery, opened pre-orders on Sunday for a new entry version of its RX coupe SUV that swaps the original 100-kWh pack for an 81-kWh unit. The starting pre-sale price now stands at 269,800 yuan (about $39,960), a cut of 30,000 yuan — roughly 10% — from the figure quoted when the model first went up for pre-order on August 20.

The new battery option comes in two trims: one carrying a co-optical-path in-cabin LiDAR from 269,800 yuan, and one built on an architecture prepared for L3 autonomous driving from 329,800 yuan. Luxeed executive director and executive vice president Zhao Changjiang said about 70% of pre-order buyers so far are households adding a second car, and argued that the smaller pack, with well-controlled consumption, is enough for daily commuting and weekend trips. "Not everyone needs a bigger battery," he wrote on Weibo.

Positioned as a mid-to-large battery-electric coupe SUV, the RX sits on Huawei's Tuling platform, stretches beyond five meters in length and rides on a 3,000-mm wheelbase. Buyers can pick single-motor rear drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive, and the model debuts Huawei's next-generation high-performance electric drive system. Its Giant Whale battery delivers up to 852 km of CLTC range, while the sensor suite counts 38 fused units, including an 896-channel dual-optical-path imaging-grade LiDAR and three high-precision solid-state LiDARs.

With the lower entry point, the RX moves into more direct competition with the Xiaomi YU7, whose standard version starts at 233,500 yuan. Slated as Luxeed's fourth model after the S7 sedan, R7 coupe SUV and V9 MPV, the RX is expected to launch officially this fall.
