BYD has confirmed that the second-generation Dolphin Mini, sold in China as the Seagull, will reach Brazil in 2028. The new version is expected to be offered alongside the current model, with two or three trims planned for Brazil; local pricing has not been announced. The entry version is expected to cost above the current car’s R$119,990 price but below the Dolphin’s R$149,990 price.
The cabin replaces the driver-facing instrument cluster with a 15.6-inch central screen that displays speed, range and mileage; the current screen measures 10.1 inches and can rotate. The new display is fixed, and the gear selector moves to a stalk on the steering column. Chinese-market equipment includes electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats, a 50 W wireless phone charger, eight speakers, automatic climate control and a full ADAS package.
The redesigned hatch measures 4.20 metres long, 1.81 metres wide and has a 2.65-metre wheelbase—42 cm longer overall and 15 cm longer between the axles than today’s model. Its electric motor moves from the front to the rear, creating a 94-litre front storage compartment. Vitality and Freedom versions have 114 hp and a 30.1 kWh battery, with up to 320 km of CLTC range. Comfort, Flying and Smart trims use a 129 hp motor and a 39.2 kWh battery, rated for 420 km; with a high-power charger, BYD says charging from 10% to 70% takes five minutes. In China, prices run from US$9,800 to US$14,900. The article identifies the Geely EX2 as a key rival.
