Rugged Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 Launches in China and Racks Up 43,900 Orders in an Hour

A year after appearing as a concept, Geely's rugged new Galaxy SUV has finally reached the market. The production Galaxy Cruiser 700 — styling revealed in March, interior shown over the summer — has now made its full Chinese debut with pre-order pricing, and buyer interest has been overwhelming: the company reports more than 43,900 orders placed within the first hour.

True to its off-road brief, the SUV gets a squared-off body, hefty bumpers and a side-opening tailgate with an exposed spare wheel. It measures 5085 mm long, 1999 mm wide and 1912 mm tall on a 2900 mm wheelbase, rides 221 or 233 mm off the ground depending on trim, seats five only, and offers a 1050-liter cargo bay.

Every version is a plug-in hybrid built around a 47.14 kWh CATL battery, good for 270 to 305 km of CLTC electric range. The entry setup pairs a 163-hp 1.5 turbo with a single front motor for 476 hp combined; mid-grade variants add two rear motors for 938 hp, while the flagship combines a new 218-hp Horse B20 2.0 turbo with three electric motors for 1129 hp and 1330 Nm. Top trims bring air suspension, a rear differential lock and Geely's own GVMC dynamics system, and a limited edition wades up to 800 mm deep.

Pre-order pricing spans 199,800 to 239,800 yuan for 1.5T variants and 269,800 to 389,800 yuan for the 2.0T flagship. Exports are planned, Europe included, though the model's name outside China has yet to be announced.
