Sollers has added an automatic version of its ST8 pickup in Russia, and a Kolesa.ru test drive examines the changes. The new setup combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 224 hp and 390 Nm with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine, designated N20TG, is also used in the larger Sollers ST9 and in several Changan models. The transmission is a Huanghai A8R50, described in the report as a licensed copy of Hyundai’s A8TR1, itself developed using technology from the ZF 8HP family.

The switch from a manual gearbox prompted changes to the cabin’s central console and multimedia surround. The ST8 automatic gets a 10.4-inch screen, a seven-inch digital instrument display and climate control; manual versions have air conditioning. The pickup retains selectable part-time four-wheel drive, a rear differential lock and four drive modes. On the road, the reviewer found it stable at speed, relatively quiet and composed through ordinary corners, while cautioning that its leaf-spring rear suspension still calls for slowing down over speed bumps. The truck has no adaptive cruise control or advanced driver-assistance suite.

In Russia, the Luxury trim starts at 3.3 million rubles. Premium costs 100,000 rubles more and adds power-folding mirrors, a surround-view camera and a powered sunroof. The cargo bed measures 1,520 × 1,520 × 470 mm and has a protective coating; its tailgate is rated for up to 200 kg. Listed specifications include a 150 km/h top speed, combined fuel consumption of 12.1 L/100 km, a 76-liter tank and 210 mm of ground clearance.

The article suggests a diesel ST8 with an automatic could follow next year, but presents that as an expectation rather than a confirmed plan. It also argues that the range may eventually settle on diesel versions with manual and automatic gearboxes, alongside the newer gasoline engine with an automatic.
