Kolesa.ru tested the Tank 400 Techno Premium, a plug-in hybrid version of Great Wall Motor’s off-road SUV that had just reached official dealerships in Russia. The Hi4-T system pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 231 hp with an electric motor. A 37.1-kWh lithium-ion battery is mounted beneath the rear floor; the manufacturer claims an electric range of 110 km under the NEDC cycle. The SUV reaches 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, while the article gives a combined torque figure of 750 Nm.
The test found that electric assistance gives the heavy, body-on-frame 4x4 brisk, consistent acceleration, including at higher speeds. For tax calculations, the electric motor is counted at its 30-minute output of 68 hp, bringing the taxable combined rating to 299 hp. The hybrid uses a dedicated nine-speed automatic and offers three power-management settings: electric priority, combustion-engine priority and an intelligent hybrid mode. The review also reports an NEDC fuel-consumption figure of 8.4 litres per 100 km, excluding electricity.
Off-road equipment includes a lockable multi-plate coupling for the front axle, front and rear axle differential locks, and low range. Testing in mountainous terrain highlighted the usefulness of manual gear selection on steep descents and slow, difficult sections. The cabin includes a 16.2-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, massaging front seats and Nappa leather upholstery.
The Techno Premium starts at just under 7 million rubles—700,000 rubles more than the petrol Tank 400 Premium, with the extra cost attributed to the Hi4-T system. The article characterizes the hybrid as a markedly quicker alternative to the conventional version while retaining substantial off-road capability.
