Voyah's Dream 9 flagship MPV skips the launch event as pre-sales begin September 5

Voyah will start taking pre-orders for its Dream 9 flagship MPV at 10 a.m. Beijing time on September 5 — with no stage, no keynote and no offline event. Instead, the Dongfeng-backed brand will publish the variant lineup and pre-sale prices online that morning while display units simultaneously reach dealerships across China for hands-on inspection and test drives. Chairman Lu Fang framed the move as a deliberate rejection of "unnecessary marketing hype," saying buyers should experience the vehicle first and judge it for themselves.

Positioned in the roughly 500,000-yuan (about $73,800) luxury MPV bracket, the Dream 9 rides on a Level 3-capable architecture that pairs a Huawei-supplied 896-channel dual-path main LiDAR with three solid-state LiDAR units covering blind spots, and is billed as the world's first MPV with a retractable illuminated hood ornament. Buyers will choose between a plug-in hybrid — a 1.5-liter turbo engine plus dual motors for a combined 555 kW with a 65-kWh pack — and a battery-electric version with 175 kW and 300 kW motors and a 120-kWh pack, all on an 800-volt platform using CATL cells.

The stripped-back rollout echoes mounting industry criticism of launch oversupply; GWM's chairman recently counted around 630 new or refreshed models in China in the first half alone, roughly two to three debuts a day. The stakes are high for Voyah, which grew H1 revenue 42.4% to 18.16 billion yuan and deliveries 35.9% to 76,264 units yet slipped to a 389-million-yuan net loss as gross margin fell to 17.7% on pricier lithium carbonate and memory chips. A formal launch is still expected in the second half of the year.
