Xpeng builds first right-hand-drive G9L units as flagship SUV gears up for Australia

Xpeng has completed the initial production run of right-hand-drive G9L units at its Guangzhou factory, with the first batch earmarked for Australia. Announced via Weibo, the milestone moves the company's large flagship SUV closer to its first deliveries outside China, and the brand says the model will eventually reach 64 countries and regions.

The five-seat G9L premiered in China on August 11 with pre-sales starting at 259,800 yuan, and an official launch plus start of domestic deliveries is slated for September. Buyers will be able to pick between battery-electric and extended-range variants on a shared 800-volt platform — the BEV offering up to 755 km of range, the EREV a combined CLTC figure of 1,602 km. It becomes Xpeng's second flagship alongside the six-seat GX launched in May, and lines up against the Li Auto L7 and Huawei-backed Aito M7.

The export push comes as overseas sales surge: Xpeng shipped 8,125 vehicles abroad in August, up almost 170% year-on-year, and its January-August total of 49,424 has already surpassed the 45,014 units exported in all of 2025. CEO He Xiaopeng expects quarterly overseas deliveries to clear 40,000 vehicles once the Mona L03 goes abroad, and with the G9L and Mona L05 arriving, he has set a target of more than 60,000 monthly sales in the fourth quarter.
