BAIC is assessing whether to bring its B60 large SUV to Brazil before or after a flex-fuel powertrain is ready. The model is described as a seven-seater measuring more than five metres long, with an off-road focus and a comfort-oriented, spacious cabin. BAIC has identified a hybrid flex-fuel version for the market, but has not settled on launch timing or whether the existing version is the right fit.

The proposed setup uses extended-range electric-vehicle architecture: two electric motors drive the SUV, while a 1.5-litre turbocharged flex-fuel engine serves as a generator. The front motor is rated at 208 horsepower and the rear at 340 horsepower. A 43.2-kWh battery is said to provide up to 153 km of electric-only driving, while combined range is quoted at 1,200 km. The generator is rated at 123 horsepower, and the 82-litre fuel tank can use either ethanol or gasoline.

BAIC Brazil Chief Operating Officer Oswaldo Ramos said he was travelling to China to review product strategy, including whether the company should wait for the flex-fuel engine or introduce the B60 earlier in another configuration. The report gives no Brazilian price or launch date. It notes that the brand faces substantial competition from other Chinese automakers in Brazil.
