Foton unveiled the Tunland V9 plug-in hybrid double-cab pickup in Gqeberha, South Africa, on October 29, 2026. The Chinese automaker says the model will reach the local market in early 2027, but has not announced pricing. It will sit above the current Tunland V9 range-topper, which starts at R799,900.
The PHEV pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors and a 32.85 kWh battery. Combined output is 350 kW and 800 Nm, sent to all four wheels through a four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Foton claims a 0–100 km/h time of 7.9 seconds. The output matches the Chery Grootman, expected in South Africa in the first quarter of 2026, while the BYD Shark 6 Performance is listed at 350 kW and 700 Nm.
Foton claims 100 km of electric-only driving and an overall range of about 1,000 km. Fuel consumption is quoted at 2.0 L/100 km with a fully charged battery, rising to 11.7 L/100 km at low charge. The pickup measures 5,617 mm long and 2,090 mm wide, has 250 mm of ground clearance and can tow up to 3,500 kg with brakes. Its stated wading depth is 800 mm, compared with 700 mm for the standard version.
